Picture - 'Abstract Landscape' - acrylic on canvas 1.5 X 1.5 metres.
While materials, styles and techniques continue to develop and change, my preferred medium is acrylic paint on canvas and textured board. My main subject is Abstraction and I am strongly influenced by land, sea and sky.
My abstract work is largely intuitive as I respond to both controlled and accidental effects. It is tremendously satisfying to tease and guide the paint while still achieving a degree of spontaneity. Inspiration comes from the endless effects and combinations of colour, line, texture, shape and tone.... Features and references to the landscape almost always emerge within the composition, if only in the form of a horizon or the suggestion of the sky or sea.
